Budding entrepreneurs ready for business boot camp

Friday, 28th May 2010

Students and graduates from across Yorkshire’s 11 universities are to undergo an intensive business boot camp which provides them with the chance to learn more about the practical aspects of starting and running a business.

Organised by the Graduate Entrepreneurship Project, the business boot camp which takes place between 28 June and 1 July, is now in its third year. The residential, four day course offers budding entrepreneurs the opportunity to gain valuable, practical business skills and knowledge in areas such as finance, business planning, sales and marketing.

Part of the boot camp Entrepreneur in Action will see former boot camp attendees returning to talk to this year’s cohort about their experiences in business and putting a real business issue to the group.

“This is a great part of the programme,” says Project Manager Susan McColl. “It’s great to welcome back graduates who have been through the programme and are now successful and it’s also a great learning experience for our attendees. All the issues they’re asked to suggest potential solutions for are real business issues which are currently affecting the business in question.”

Returning for this part of the programme this year are smoothie company Xing, which began its life at the University of Hull and eco-design business Plus Minus Design.

Other workshops will be run by professionals from across the region. Along with presentations and the chance for one to one sessions with Business Link advisors, the cohort will hear from solicitors about issues such as protecting intellectual property, HMRC about tax considerations and professional marketing strategists.

Students and graduates interested in attending the boot camp can register through their university’s business start up initiative.
