Yorkshire’s best bet for a Dyson Award - vote Sarah!
Wednesday, 7th July 2010

Sarah Perks, a second year student at Sheffield Hallam University has come up with an ingenious space saving device for people with small gardens and what’s more, she’s entered it into the global James Dyson Awards, aimed at students and recent graduates.
Sarah’s DualTrim product is a lawnmower and strimmer in one, providing people with small gardens with an alternative to having to store both a bulky mower and strimmer.
Sarah, who is two years into a four year product design course, has recently attended the Graduate Entrepreneurship Project’s Bootcamp, an intense four day course aimed at providing the region’s young entrepreneurs with the knowledge and skills to go on and run successful businesses.
“Bootcamp was really interesting and helpful,” says Sarah. “In particular, it was great to hear about the progress entrepreneurs from that have previously attended bootcamp have made. I went along to generally improve my knowledge and business skills, but came away with much more. It’s provided me with a great foundation for when I finish at university.”
Sarah has entered her DualTrim product for a Dyson Award, a global awards programme for entrepreneurs and designers. The DualTrim came about as a result of discussion with friends and neighbours, who commonly complained that despite having only small gardens, they still needed two unwieldy items ??“ a mower and a strimmer ??“ to keep their gardens tidy.
Says Sarah: “I’m really excited about the Dyson Awards, but need people to vote for my design to stand a chance of winning. The product has been well received by the people that have seen it already and it’d be great to see it on the shelves in DIY stores!”
The DualTrim has already attracted votes from the public on the Dyson Awards website, where the public are invited to give their opinions on the entries prior to judging by design professionals later this month. A vote for Sarah could see her brought to the attention of the judging panel. - so what are you waiting for? Vote for Sarah at: http://tinyurl.com/yjg66ro
The finalists in the James Dyson Awards will be announced in August.
